5 messages men get about abortion
On July 1, Greg Mayo (author of Almost Daddy) and I livestreamed our conversation about men’s roles in reproductive choices. If you missed it live, sign up to get the replay link.
One of our areas of focus was cultural messaging regarding men and abortion. In my many years of debating abortion, I’ve noticed the following themes.
1. Men can’t have an opinion.
2. Men can have an opinion (if it agrees with ours).
3. Consent to sex is consent to abortion.
3a. Unintended pregnancy (and therefore abortion) are men’s and solely men’s fault.
4. Men will prioritize sex over other concerns.
5. Who decides what makes a “real man”?
Other contenders:
Anti-abortion men want to control women’s bodies.
Pro-abortion men care only about using women as sex objects.
What else?
